Coach Jay Gooding
Former ATP Tour Professional and veteran tour coach Jay Gooding brings over 20 years of professional tennis experience to Gooding Todero Academy.
Jay was born in Melbourne, Australia and became a top junior player in Queensland before becoming a professional player. After Jay’s professional career, he founded ProForm Academy in Rye Brook, NY. Developing top juniors became a passion for Jay who then went to join the USTA Player Development team as a National Coach working out of the national training center in Flushing, NY. It was there where Jay met Jorge Todero, also a USTA National Coach, and together they saw to the success of such notable WTA players as Melanie Oudin, Christina McHale, Varvara Lepchenko, and Louisa Chirico. After 4 years with the USTA, Jay re-entered the private sector coaching Louisa Chirico. During their 6 years together, Louisa reached a high of #58 in the world.
Jay’s next coaching experience led him back to his Australian roots as he joined the coaching team for Tennis Australia working with up-and-coming Australian players Priscilla Hon, Lizette Cabrera, and Kimberly Birrell.
Jay is currently coaching WTA player, Danielle Collins.
Jay has held a seat on the WTA Coaches Advisory Council since 2017.
Recently, Jay joined the 2020 World Team Tennis team, the Orlando Storm, as Head Coach.
